Day 1 - Anawangin cove via hike at Mt. Pundaquit, San Antonio, Zambales

The plan was to hike across Pandaquit then camp at Anawangin cove. It initially started when Benj asked me to go hiking, originally there would only be five to six of us who will hike. After two good months of waiting we somehow ended up being twenty three people big. The attendance is as follows:

1. Me
9. Flynn Sto. Domingo
17. Nicole Alonzo
2. Al Natividad
10. Gregorio Guevarra
18. Ogie Dela Fuente
3. Alden Perez
11. Iggi Tano
19. Reggie Reyes
4. Aldrin Alvina
12. Jake Leoncini
20. Rocky Reyes
5. Bea Cadiz
13. Jansen Calalan
21. Rod Calzado
6. Benj Tuason
14. Lely Galura
22. Russell Uriarte
7. Brett Limsengkeng
15. Miguel Carag
23. Steve Gueco
8. Chino De Belen
16. Monique Rodriguez

The bus left the station (Victory Liner, Pasay station) around 11:30pm (April 16). Our group occupied the seats starting from seat #22 all the way to the back the trip had the field trip bus ride feel for me (hard to sleep).

The bus arrived at the San Antonio municipal hall around 3:10 AM in the morning. Waited for Jake's Cousin to arrive then we proceeded to the starting area. Everything was arranged in advanced. Before hiking we ate breakfast. Jansen, Rocky and Flynn took the boat ride option going to Anawangin cove. That leaves twenty of us who will hike. The group started hiking around 4:50AM.

When we started the hike it was still very dark, but as the hours passed the beautiful silhouette of the mountains slowly showed itself with our every step. Sunlight became prominent just before the base of the mountain

Quarter way left going to the peak some events happened which everyone who hiked will not forget. Lesson learned bring lots of water and inform those around you if you have a medical condition. ;)

Waited 30mins

I distinctly heard someone say "I can't carry the ring for you master Frodo.. But I can carry you!" (appropriately timed) X_x

We divided into two groups, I went with the group who headed up first. The other group proceeded with a slower pace. Near the peak of the mountain me, Ogie, Brett and Russell proceeded to the peak while the others rested.

The view and the burning sun. After this halfway point most of us drank trough all our reserved drinking water. After the epic 5 Hours of trekking we were all very thirsty some were already suffering headaches. After so much walking We finally glimpsed the sight of Rocky in his bright Hawaiian mayor clothes and other campers. Sheer joy and a jolt of adrenaline hit us. Hahaha! People taught we were crazy running from the forest, but who cares! We needed water! :))

About 2pm in the afternoon another event happened. We had to take Miguel to the hospital but most of the ferry drivers did not care. Luckily there was one good soul who offered his help. Rod and Monique went with him.

Things to note for other people who will plan the same route:
  1. No Cellphone signal coverage
  2. No landline telephones available
  3. From 5:00 to 7:00am the temperature was very good for hikers.
  4. Very hot 7:30am onwards.
  5. Bring lots of water. 6 Liter will cost you around PHP200.00
  6. Best be prepared if you have a medical condition. There is no clinic in the area and the local boat ferry drivers do not care if you are dying or if you need to be hospitalized.
